Thank you to the scouts and woodelfs for nominating Sam's Haven to be the beneficiary of this years Denmead Santa's visit.
Santa and his elves did a splendid job and raised a whopping £248 for us.
Sam enjoyed his visit to Santa and the innocents in his eyes reflected the true magic of Christmas.
Thanks to all those that turned out and gave so generously and a special thanks to Santa and his team.

A very big thank you to Wave 105 for their donation of these wonderful new toys.
We are holding a craft workshop for the children in QAH today (20 Dec) and we will take all these toys in with us in preparation for their big day. This will certainly bring a big smile to their faces.

Denmead Village Carol Concert

The evening was full of community spirit and a good old sing song was had by all.

Thank you to everyone for supporting our Bake Sale at the Queen Alexander Hospital and helping us to raise a very respectable £262.
We would also like to say a very special thank you to the Co-op shop in Denmead for so generously donating a large quantity of carrot cakes towards our sale. We really appreciate this kind offer.
Apologies to the receptionist at the hospital for us not having any of her favourite bakewell tarts ....we trust that we made amends at the end of the day though.

Karen and Simon of the Admiral Drake public house in Portsmouth officially presented a cheque to Paul for the grand sum of £1625.00 as a result of the Drakefest held during the 4th 5th and 6th of July.
The event involved twenty bands, over the three days, across two stages, one inside and one out side so as to cater for whatever-the-weather could throw at them

Your generosity is really appreciated.
It's a massive 'well done' all round to the magnificient Portsmouth Bowls Team who organised the Portsdown Charity Fives competition and raised a whopping £1255 for Sam's Haven on the 16th of November.

Sarah, from Portsmouth, was at the Cosham-based hospital last month to judge Sam’s Haven’s first ever Christmas card competition.
The charity, which aims to provide short respite holidays for severely ill children in the area, was set up in September 2013 by Paul and Louise Merrick, after being inspired by their son Sam who has spent much of his life in hospital with on-going complications.
Paul said: “The Christmas card competition launched a couple of months ago. The aim of it was to see if we could get the children at Queen Alexandra Hospital involved and get their designs on sale with any money raised going to Sam’s Haven.
“Sue, one of the play specialists at the hospital, has been going around and asking the children to get involved and submit their designs - she has done a great job. The children have been really excited to get involved and so has our Sam.
“It is the first time we’ve done this competition but if this is successful we want to do it every year.”
Pop star Sarah, also the ambassador for the charity, said she was thrilled the Merrick’s had asked her to judge the competition.
“I thought all the designs were absolutely brilliant,” said Sarah. “It was lovely to meet all of the kids and they created some really amazing cards. I just felt bad because I couldn’t pick them all.
“It was also lovely to see Sam and how well he’s doing too. Everyone please buy the cards once they are out – it’s for a really great cause which makes such a difference to these children’s lives so please do buy them so we can get as many holidays as possible for these sick children.”
Paul added: “Having Sarah and Sean as our ambassador’s means a lot to us and it was really great that Sarah could come down to judge the competition and meet the children.”

Tennis club serves more than an ace in
In June, the Southsea Tennis Club held a 24hr tennis-a-thon in aid of Sam's Haven. Today Sam's Haven chairman, Paul, and son's Kiran and Sam attended the official cheque presentation ceremony.
We are delighted to announce that we received a cheque for an incredible £3,509.95. With gift aid this will increase to approx £4,000.
Sam and Kiran also had the honour of cutting the ribbon to officially open two new tennis courts.
The amount raised from this event along with £302 raised by Dinah Walters for her boogie night has enabled us to purchase the much needed ramp for access to the caravan. This will be fitted shortly and will be ready for the new season so that we can accept families that would have otherwise been excluded.

The Great South Run
Thank you to Nicki and Dan White, Neil Woods and Lt Cdr David Price from HMS Bristol for running in the Great South Run on behalf of Sam's Haven. It was particularly kind of Dan to step in at the last minute to run in place of Trustee Louise, who badly damaged her foot.
We are extremely pleased that your gallant efforts have managed to raise around £416 for the charity.
Well done to all of you, we are really grateful for you support.

Many thanks to Chris Freely and his colleagues from MMD shipping services Ltd in Portsmouth who undertook a sponsored cycling event around the isle of Wight for Sam's Haven.
They cycled an impressive 77 miles around the island and their aches and pains were rewarded by raising an impressive £867.
Thanks for supporting Sam's Haven guys it was really good to meet you all.

Charity Golf Tournament
Darby and Kellie Allen sadly lost a boy called Leo 7yrs ago, but they keep his memory alive by holding an annual charity golf
tournament. This year they have nominated Make-a-Wish and Sam's Haven as their chosen charities.
The day was a great success, despite the cold and wet, and many people came together to raise money for some great causes. We
have had confirmation that they will be donating a whopping £500 to Sam's Haven.
Thank you to all involved, especially Darby and kellie Allen.
Even the rain didn't keep people away, though you did need a boat to leave the car park.
Thank you to the ferry boat inn on hayling island for their fun day and we raised £80.43 from donations and glitter tattoos.
Amigos at the ferry port continue to support us and last month alone raised £46.63 from the collection tins. They have now raised £346 in total.

Well done and a very big thank you to every brave and nervous soul that took part in or helped out with the full days sponsored abseil event. You all did a fantastic job
and have managed to raise an estimated whopping £5,000 (costs deducted). We are still waiting for the return of
some sponsorship forms after which we will be able to announce the final amount for this very successful event. Thank you to the kind public who gave £227.74 on the day.
A special thank you to Trustee Karyn for proposing, organising and also being the first to abseil. Also well done to Chairman Paul for having to wait all day long to be the last down to close the event.
Updated 10 Nov 2014. The latest figure for funds raised is £7,090 which could increase by a further £1000 with Giftaid.

We all got the chance to meet our ambassadors 'Same Difference' whislt they were performing at Church Farm, which is where our caravan is situated. The local duo from Portsmouth came to prominence in 2007 when they finished third in the fourth series of UK television talent show, The X factor, before going on to have a successful pop career. They are now touring the country and developing there own performing school called Pop Academy.
They were so impressed with our charity that they have offered to become our 'ambassadors' and we are really looking forward to working
Whilst at church farm the entertainment team agreed to pass round our charity buckets and Same Difference donated all their sales from merchandise to us. This resulted in the much appreciated amount of £192 being raised. Thank you to same difference and all at church farm, including the holiday makers.
We returned to Church Farm the following morning morning for the kids to join in the pop academy session and it was lovely to see all the kids perform together. Well done to Sarah, Sean and Craig who managed to get approx 30 kids to sing and dance in less than three hours.

Youth of the Year Awards
We are all extremely delighted and proud that Sam not only won the award in his category of 'Inspiration of the year' but also walked away with the overall 'Star of the year' award.

Sam's category was sponsored by Sisterly care Ltd and they have very kindly donated £100 towards the caravan.
A big thank you goes to Stourfield School in Bournemouth for holding a non uniform day and raising £251.30 for Sam's Haven.
We are most grateful for their continued support, especially considering the fact that the school is in Dorset and not in our Hampshire catchment area.

4, 6 and 7 July 2014
Would like to say a big thankyou to all those involved in the Drakefest. It was a brilliant weekend and fun was had by all. Thank you to Pam from Hannahs Holiday Home whom we shared a stall with. Julie and savannah who helped on Sunday and glitter arty party who kept the kids busy with balloon making and glitter tattoos.
We made £155.51 on the stall, mainly with the latest craze of loom bands and snakes (which we still have loads left if anyone wants any at 50p for bands and £1.50 for snakes plus postage). Will keep everyone posted when we hear from the drakefest with how much was raised.

Thomas Sanderson, the UK’s Conservatory Blinds, Window Shutters and Window Blinds specialists in Waterlooville donated a whopping £500 in order for a family to have a much needed break in our caravan.
Chairman Paul received the check on behalf of Sam's Haven and met several members of staff and later commented on how friendly they all were.
Thank you to all at Thomas Sanderson, you will be making a family very happy indeed.
Monday was the start of the three peaks challenge and we are pleased to say that the team completed it within 23hr 30mins. I know you will all join me and say a massive congratulations. They have manage to raise over £1000
Friday was the start of Kirans 24hr silence, which he completed at 1600hrs on Saturday. This was a trying time and lots of notes were passed over. We are all proud of him and he managed to raise £421.
Saturday evening was the race/curry night. Unfortunately only a small number of people attended but it was still a fab night and we managed to raise £260.50. This is the third event organised by Wiss for Sam's Haven, and she has managed to raise a whopping £1,410.50. We are extremely grateful to Wiss and all those that helped.
We have had confirmation that the caberet night at the Guildhall raised £600. Once again this was organised by Wiss and was definitely a night to remember.

Three Peaks Challenge
This is a National event where teams attempt to climb the highest mountains in England Scotland and Wales
....Ben Nevis...Scafell Pike...Snowdon
in 24 hours.
These guys completed the challenge in 23 hours 30 minutes and managed to raise an incredible £1280.43 for Sam's Haven whilst doing it.
Well done to you all and a massive thanks for the incredible donation.

Monday was the meeting at the Admiral Drake to discuss the up and coming Drakefest. We would like people to come forward and help
set up and also to help throughout the weekend. If anyone is interested please PM us.
Tuesday we were at Fareham shopping centre with Garage Ceramics doing 'hug a mug'. The day was a great success and together we raised £131.24.
Thursday, Paul and Louise went to BBC Radio Solent and had a quick chat with Katie Martin. She is a lovely lady and put them both at ease.
On Friday the Havant Karate club did a 'Kick-a-thon' and everyone had great fun in fancy dress.
Saturday was a busy day, with an indoor car boot in the morning. Think the rain/thunderstorm may have put people off a bit, but we still raised £66.
The evening saw our second playdate. The kids had an amazing time and we got to meet some new followers. Unfortunately, after subtracting our costs, we made a loss of £82.
This is the charity's first loss but we won't be disheartened and will push on and look forward to our next events.

The craft fayre on the 31st raised £166 so thank you to all that attended (stall holders and buyers) and a massive thank you to karyn for arranging it all.
This was a huge success and Melissa O'Donnell's hard work paid off. Everthing fell into place. Kevin cruise is just the best entertainer we've seen and definitely got the crowd going. Also well done to the two poor members of the public that were picked out of the audience. Great sports.
Thank you to liz who delivered a great speech to explain about Sam and why we set up Sam's Haven.

We made it 3hrs 23mins.
Thank you to Nicki Rose-White Donna Churcher Kay Frampton and all their family and friends who joined us.
All the children completed the walk without complaining ONCE, very proud of them all.
Plus Laura Loopz Lumsden LyndieLou Treasures Julie Middle Lorna Burton for your help on the 'pit stops' and again thank you to those that donated fruit and water.
It was good for raising awareness of Sam's Haven and we managed to raise £247.61 in the bargain.
Whistlers Fish and Chip shop
On Wednesday 22 April, Whistlers Fish and Chip shop in Hayling Island, Fareham and Westbourne sold their fish and chips and
sausage and chips for just £1. They then invited customers to make a donation to Sam's Haven and to our absolute delight managed to raise an incredible £805.
The charity quiz was a great success and managed to raise £702.37.
Thank you to liz procter for organising it, all the staff at Hayling community centre for there time and use of the hall, Sean for his help and Eleanor and the team for donating, cooking and serving the food, It was delicious.

Easter Charity Ball
The ball was a resounding success and enjoyed by all. An amazing £1400 was raised during the night bringing the overall total for the entire event to a staggering £1900.
