What is Sam's Haven all about?

We are a registered charity providing short respite holidays at a Haven Holiday Park, for families who have children with a life threatening or terminal illness.

All the children are referred directly from the Queen Alexandra Hospital (QAH), Cosham or the children’s community services. These children go through intense and invasive medical treatment which can at times be very painful and debilitating. They can be on treatment for long periods of time and often without a clear cure at the end of it all. The strict medical regime often means that families find it impossible to go away on a family holiday.

We offer 4-5 day holidays in a modern 3 bed caravan holiday home situated in Church Farm Holiday Park, Chichester.  It is just a 30 minute drive away from QAH should the need arise for the family to quickly return to the hospital during the break.

We have obtained a caravan but need to continue raising sufficient funds to cover the cost of the repayments and the annual ground/maintenance fees. We then need to maintain a yearly income of at least £8,000 in order to continue to offer at least 15 families a year this well needed break away from all the stresses that the medical world brings.

The families receive an all access pass to the activities and evening entertainment, which will sure bring a smile to the child’s face.

We were extremely pleased with the response and support that we have had in such a short time and amazed at the willingness of some people to get involved. Because of this support, we are delighted that after only 6 months of operation we managed to raise sufficient funds to start accepting family referrals. Our first family enjoyed a holiday during Easter 2014 and by January 2017 we had provided holidays for 51 deserving families.

Our son Sam has spent much of his life in hospital and we witnessed a remarkable change in him during our visits to the holiday park.  Seeing him so happy and care-free inspired us to start this charity so that others could experience the same delight as us.

We have set a target of 15 families a year but would be really delighted if we managed to raise sufficient funds to give many, many more deserving families a holiday.
